Gearmotors are DC Motors with gearboxes attached to them. The gearbox takes the very high speed output from a standard DC motor and uses a series of gears to reduce the speed that the shaft spins at. Instead of 1000’s or even 10000+ revolutions per minute, the output shaft of a gearmotor is often well below 100 revolutions per minute.
