Description
Keeping an accurate record of time is difficult, especially if your project shuts off or needs to be reprogrammed from time to time. This Real Time Clock (RTC) breakout board adds an external clock that will keep running even when your project is shut off, reprogrammed, or reset.
The RTC connects to your project using the I2C bus (found on most microcontrollers and microcomputers) and includes a battery backup that will typically keep time for 5 years or more. The DS1307 is simple and inexpensive but not a high precision device. It may lose or gain up to 2 seconds a day. For a high-precision, temperature compensated alternative, please check out the DS3231 precision RTC.
Please Note: This breakout uses a CR1220 battery. Due to shipping regulations, a battery is not included
