Curbside Pickup – Upcoming Changes
We will be making minor changes to our Curbside Pickup option beginning July 1st. As many of you may know, the City of Nanaimo has put in place a plastic bag ban.
After discussions with the city in regards to how this will affect curbside pickup, and the feedback we have received from customers, we have decided the best way forward was to transition to normal shipping boxes and envelopes.
No changes are being made to the process in which curbside pickup orders are placed or picked up; however, as a result of additional packaging costs, orders placed totaling less than $15 before taxes will be subject to a $2.00 handling fee. All orders exceeding $15 will continue to be processed for Curbside Pickup Free of Charge.

Love the curbside pickup, hope we never fully go back to the old pre-covid system. The $2.00 handling fee is no concern either. But have you considered using compostible plastic bags, those similar to what we use in food waste containers?
Chris @ BCR
Hey James!
Thanks for the feedback – we really appreciate it! Unfortunately the distribution of compostable and biodegradable checkout bags are also banned by the bylaw – using them was one of our first thoughts as well.
The bylaw also puts in place mandatory minimum charges per bag (reusable or paper). While we are introducing a charge for orders under $15.00, we wanted the option to waive any “bagging” fee for orders at our discretion. Using boxes / envelopes allows us to do that and keeps the curbside pickup process as simple as possible for everyone.
